Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 1999) is an American actress and singer who spanned more than 40 years. London is a torch singer loved for her soft, soothing vocals and smooth contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955-1969. The song she sang on "Cry me a river" the track she introduced on her debut album was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. Alongside her music-related recognition, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her portrayal of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began as an actress when she was employed as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, which included roles for female leads in numerous westerns. She also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) as well as together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in the year 1969. She continued her success as the female star role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she was married to her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
