Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public talker. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and commentary on portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards in her field, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site designed to provide education on the role of women in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her organization. But, she also wants to highlight concerns like the issue of harassment and targeted attacks on women in the online world. The holder of a master's degree in politics and sociology from York University Sarkeesian is also popular as a public speaking engagement and has given talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She has been interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality since an early age. As of 2009, as she was still enrolled at the University of Toronto, Sarkeesian created the website Feminist Frequency. The site was about to launch a series of online videos that examined the gender representations in video games and was the target of online bullying. The attack did not stop her, however it did strengthen the determination of feminist media critic. For the many contribution she's made to feminism, she is recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency An educational, non-profit company that examines the ways women are represented in popular media narratives.
